Questions people ask
Most of this applies whether or not you own a Drifter. If your question is not here, ask in the server and we will add it.
Do I need to know about crypto?
No. You can sign in, claim a name, wear it and take part without ever touching a wallet.
Driftopia is a place to spend time in first. The technology underneath is there if you want it and out of the way if you do not.
You do not need to own anything either, and plenty of people here own nothing.
If you do want to go deeper, it runs on a blockchain and none of that is hidden from you.
Where do I get a Drifter?
There are two collections because we are part way through moving everyone onto one.
Masterwork is the finished art. It is the same Drifter redrawn properly, with a lot of the old problems fixed.
It is the only one on OpenSea, because it is the one everything is moving to and where the trading is.
OG is the original. Every OG is on its way to being a Masterwork, and upgrading is free.
So buying an OG is buying a Masterwork with one step in between.
Only Masterworks earn Benny, so an OG earns nothing until you take that step.
Buy the one you like looking at. Prices are close, and sometimes the OG is the dearer of the two.
When the move is finished there is one collection, and it is just called Drifters.
Masterwork
0.35 SOL floor · 251 listed
The finished art, and what a Drifter becomes.
Earns Benny every day, straight to your wallet.
OG
0.37 SOL floor · 102 listed
The original, still waiting to be upgraded.
Does not earn until you upgrade it. Upgrading is free.
What is upgrading, and do I have to?
Upgrading turns an OG into a Masterwork. It is free apart from the network fee.
You send the OG to the bridge, it is burned, and the Masterwork is minted back to you.
It matters because only Masterworks earn Benny, so an un-upgraded OG is sitting idle.
The art changes too. It is the same Drifter redrawn as the finished version, with the old rendering problems fixed.
What does connecting my account do?
It joins your Discord to your Driftopia account, so the two know they are the same person.
Your name, the things you have made and anything you have earned then follow you between the site and the server.
It takes about a minute and you do not need to own anything to do it.
A wallet is a separate, optional step that comes later.
Why can I not see the holder channels?
They open with @Citizen (1+), and that role needs two things done.
Connect your account, then link a wallet holding at least one Drifter.
Connecting alone is not enough, because nothing has told us which wallet is yours.
Once both are done the role arrives on its own, usually within a few seconds.
What are the roles?
@Verified says you are a person. It comes from the check in #verify.
@Citizen (1+) says you hold at least one Drifter. It is the role the holder channels open for.
Above that there is one more role for how many you hold: Settler 5, Explorer 10, Pioneer 25, Zapped 50, Navigator 100, Architect 250.
You wear @Citizen (1+) and your highest rung, and nothing in between, so the list next to your name stays short.
Nothing above @Citizen (1+) opens a door. They say how far you have come, not what you may read.
How do I get Benny?
Benny is the currency in Driftopia.
When the world is live there will be plenty of ways to earn it, from the things you make and the things you do.
Right now there is one. It is given out every day to people holding Drifters.
You do not claim it or press anything, and it arrives in the wallet holding them.
There is nowhere to trade it yet, and that is deliberate. We want the world live and real things to spend it on before anyone is buying and selling it.
It goes to Drifter holders first because we want the people holding it to be people who are actually here. We would like this currency to last a very long time.
How much does a Drifter earn?
Every Drifter starts at 0.25 Benny a day. What it is, and what it is wearing, multiply that up.
An Innovator with a Halo earns 0.25 x 3 x 1.3 = 0.975 a day.
Only Masterworks earn Benny. An OG earns nothing until you upgrade it, which is free.
To check one, type /drifter and its number in Discord and it will work the sum out for you.
every Drifter 0.25 a day Innovator x 3 Voyager or Raji x 1 Halo, Helmet, Zap x 1.3 each, and they stack 5 hair colours x 1.5
Can I link more than one wallet?
Yes, and you should if your Drifters are spread out.
They add up. Four in one wallet and three in another makes you a Settler, not two people short of one.
Add them in Settings, one at a time, from the wallet panel.
There is no limit and you can remove one whenever you like.
How do I remove a wallet?
In Settings, next to the wallet, press Remove.
Anything in it stops counting straight away, and holder roles that depended on it come off.
Nothing happens to the wallet itself or to what is in it. We only forget that it is yours.
You can add it back at any time by signing again.
I have two accounts. Can I put them together?
Usually you do not need to. Sign in to the account you want to keep, then in Settings add your other sign-in to it under "another way in".
After that, Discord, Google and email all open the same account.
If your Drifters are on the other one, you do not need to move anything either. Link the wallet again here and it follows you, because signing proves it is yours.
If the second account has to go, you can delete it from its own Settings, then add that sign-in to the account you kept.
Can I delete my account?
Yes. It is at the bottom of Settings, under Leaving.
Your Drifters are not ours to touch. They stay in your wallet whatever you do here.
Names you have claimed go back so somebody else can use them, your wallets are released, and your holder roles come off in Discord.
It cannot be undone, so you are asked to type the word DELETE first.
It says my wallet is already linked to another account
Just link it again here and it will move across.
A wallet can only be on one Driftopia account, so that nobody counts the same Drifters twice. Signing proves the wallet is yours, so the newest signature wins and it follows you.
That is usually all it is: an older account of your own, from before you signed in this way.
If you sent the 0.00001 SOL from an exchange, that is a different problem. The sender was the exchange and not you, so send from your own wallet instead.
If it still will not move, open a ticket and say which wallet it is.
I signed in but none of my Drifters are showing
Signing in and linking a wallet are two different steps, and only the second one tells us what you hold.
If you have linked a wallet and the number is still zero, check it is the wallet the Drifters are actually in.
Ownership is re-read every half hour, so a Drifter bought a minute ago may take a little while to appear.
Press Re-check on /status in Discord if you would rather not wait.
My roles changed or disappeared
Roles follow what your linked wallets hold, so selling or moving Drifters moves them too.
Going up a rung also takes the old one off. That is deliberate, so your name carries two roles rather than seven.
If your roles vanished while you still hold everything, that is a bug and not a decision. Open a ticket and we will put them back.
What are you actually building?
A life sim. A place above the clouds you can live in, make things in and come back to.
That is the whole of the ambition, and everything else is in service of it.
What is real today: the Drifters, this site, your account and the name you wear, and Benny going out every day.
What is being built: the world itself, the pods people live in, and Aevitas, the moon the materials come from.
We are not going to give you dates. You will see each piece when it works and not before.
Is this safe?
We will never ask for your seed phrase or private key. Nobody legitimate ever will.
We will never ask you to approve a transaction, and we will never DM you first.
Linking a wallet means signing a message or sending 0.00001 SOL. A signature is not a transaction and cannot move, approve or spend anything.
Everything we ask you to open is on drifters.app and nowhere else. If a link goes anywhere different, close it and come back.
Unsure? Asking a mod before you press anything is always the right move.
Do I need to own a Drifter?
No. The server and the site are open to you either way.
You can connect an account, claim a name, wear it and take part without owning anything.
Owning one opens the holder channels, and that is the only difference it makes here.
